Access keys

This site supports the use of access keys. These make it easier for keyboard users to navigate around the site.

All links on this site have the following access keys:

How to use them

PC's:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 - press 'Alt' and the access key at the same time
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5+ - press 'Alt' and te acces key, then press enter
Netscape 6 - press 'Alt' and the access key at the same time
Mozilla 4+ - press 'Alt' and the access key at the same time

Apple Mac’s:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 - hold down 'Control' key and then press the access key
Linux Mozilla 4+ - press 'Alt' and the access key at the same time.

Note: Opera does not support this feature.

Standards compliance

All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict . The CSS used validates as valid CSS.

All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles. For example, on this page, if you are using the JAWS text browser, users can skip to the next section within the accessibility statement by pressing ALT+INSERT+2.

Navigation aids

All pages have rel=previous, next, home and other links to aid navigation in text-only browsers. This feature is also available in Netscape 6 and Opera browsers. You can do this by selecting the View menu, Show/Hide, Site Navigation Bar, Show Only As Needed (or Show Always).

Links

Most of the links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail. To view these you need a visual browser, place your mouse pointer over a link and a box will appear under it with the title text.

Images

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes. Complex images include LONGDESC attributes to explain the significance of each image to non-visual users.

Visual design

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.

To change the text size in a visual browser:

Internet Explorer: View > Text size
Netscape: Edit > Preferences > Appearance > Fonts
Opera: File > Preferences > Fonts > Minimum font size (pixels)
Mozilla: View > Increase/Decrease Text Size
